ST DAVID’S MARIST INANDA GRADE 7 BOYS VISIT DORCAS CRECHE TO PLANT TREES, 30 MAY 2013

On the 30th May, the grounds of the crèche were invaded by 70 Grade 7 boys from St David’s Marist Inanda School who came to plant 9 trees in and around our jungle gym area. In time, these trees will provide much needed shade during the hot summer months. Their efforts in digging through the hard soil was amazing but they managed to plant those 9 trees. Hats off to these hard working boys. But what was so wonderful to see was the way these young men embraced the young boys and girls from the crèche and took on a big brother role in the short period that they were at the crèche. The boys also had an opportunity to interact with the young learners, by playing with them, teaching them about the importance of looking after our natural environment and helping them colour in pictures that they brought themselves. At lunch time, the boys also spoke to the children about what they enjoy doing and shared some of their lunch with them. After their departure, it was difficult to contain the excitement of the young learners, and all they wanted to know was when they would be coming back. Hopefully a visit will be on the cards towards the end of the year! A huge thank you to the teachers and Grade 7 young men that took the time out of their school environment to interact with our children and for the donation of groceries, stationary, toys and clothes. Take a look at the photos in our gallery of the boys planting their trees and interacting with the children.
