Since February 2014, the Grade 11 boys from St John’s College and a few young ladies from St Mary’s have been helping Women of Vision, on a monthly basis as part of their community service requirements for their respective schools. Their help has been invaluable at the crèche and we are so grateful for the time and effort they have put in, doing odd jobs around the grounds of the crèche. Their help has included work in the vegetable garden, mowing of the lawn, picking up litter, sorting out the toy and book library and finally painting of our snakes and ladders game for the children to enjoy during play time. The task seemed like a mammoth one for them, but they rose to the occasion to do a brilliant job and bring much joy to the children at the crèche. During the weekends where they were not doing community service at the crèche, some were busy making soups and lasagnes which were brought to us frozen and distributed to the child-headed households. A huge thank you to all the teenagers for giving up their Sunday, once a month to help us out at the crèche. Their support has opened many doors for us and has led to many others in the St John’s community wanting to assist us.
